The iconic Suzumiya Haruhi from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is presented here by Max Factory as a 1/8 scale PVC figure.

First up are shots of the entire figure.

Unintended reflection makes her look like she has a geass.

Comes with an additional hand and armband.

The quality that I have come to expect from Max Factory. This is the best Haruhi figure out there of her in school uniform. I’m not really a fan of her other outfits, but those are nice figures as well.

If you get the Max Factory figures for the other characters in this series, then you’ll have an awesome set!

The figure of Yuzuko Hayakawa from the manga Yuzuko Peppermint comes with a drama CD and character pamphlet that has illustrations by the artist.

This reminds me of the Shuraki Trinity figures which all come with drama CDs and booklets as well as also being made by Good Smile Company.

Besides having that unique base, the figure comes with another hairstyle – the peppermint green hair she has after using her ‘Peppermint’ ability.

I prefer the normal hair, but it’s still nice getting more options. All these extras seem to come at a price though. This 1/8 scaled figure is set for release in 03/2010 at 9,800 yen – a somewhat hefty price tag.

The Reimu Hakurei figma by Max Factory is the best figma that I’ve seen to date. Without the clear supporting arm behind her in the picture, she could pass as a scaled PVC figure.

This figma has a 1/2010 release planned with a small price tag of only 2,800 yen. Figmas sure cost way less than PVC figures. =/

There don’t seem to be many Touhou Project figures out at the moment, especially of Reimu.

The other notable ones are a nendo by Good Smile Company and a 1/8 scaled PVC figure by Griffon.

The nendo is nice as I would expect from GSC, but I’m not really a fan of Griffon figures. Their quality doesn’t seem up to par with the rest of my favorite manufacturers. However, I could be wrong since their Reimu figure does look decent.

Hopefully Alter or GSC will think about making some Touhou Project scaled PVC figures in the future. For now a fan can settle with purchasing the trifecta: PVC figure, nendo, and figma.

First up are shots of the entire figure.

Octavia can be presented with her sword drawn or sheathed. As the photos show, I prefer the sword to be drawn since it allows the actual blade to be seen.

She’s taking a battle stance, ready to swing her sword or to draw it out – depending on how you have her set up.

The base is higher than normal, but quite plain. I think Kotobukiya should have at least printed the series name on it.

Next are some close-up shots.

The sculptor did an excellent job on including all the details of the character. From her gloves and boots to her belt holding an extra dagger, it all assists in creating a realistic portrayal of Octavia.

The colors are also well done with the black, brown, and white all complementing the red nicely.

Kotobukiya releases a wide range of figures that are priced lower than other manufacturers. However, the quality of their figures is still generally very high, which makes purchasing Kotobukiya figures a prudent choice for collectors with tight wallets.

It’s quite surprising that none of the other top makers have created a figure of her. So the Kotobukiya version is the way to go if you want the best figure of Octavia out at the moment.

The widely known Hatsune Miku from the Vocaloid series is presented here by Good Smile Company as a 1/8 scale PVC figure modeled after her appearance in the commercial shown below.

The main differences between this figure and the previous version released by Good Smile Company is that she is featured here with closed eyes and a white base with snowflakes on it.

This CM version of Miku is an exclusive that was only available either at Wonder Festival 2009 or at the Good Smile Online Shop. Priced at only 4,500 yen ($49.25 USD) to thank her supporters, this figure is definitely a steal.

First up are shots of the entire figure.

Her clothes are a glossy metallic black/gray that goes along well with her characteristic teal. Only one foot is connected to the base with the connector being free to swivel. This allows you to somewhat reposition her on the base if desired.

With her hand on her headset and eyes closed, Miku appears to be engrossed in her music. This feeling is supported by her long twin-tails that seem to enclose the entire figure. An excellent job by the sculptor!

Next are some close-up shots.

Even her fingernails are painted teal!

The hexagonal base pairs up nicely with the base of the normal Miku figure that is instead transparent black with no snowflakes.

The package comes with some tears that you can stick to her face to make it seem as if she’s crying.

In my opinion, any figure released by Good Smile Company is a high quality figure that is worth owning. As for which version of Miku I like better, I somewhat prefer the original one with her eyes visible. However, the CM version is an exclusive and I’m a sucker for limited edition stuff.

It should be quite an abundant year for Miku figures with the Max Factory and the World is Mine versions coming out soon.
