Japan Trip 2011 – Day 3

I’ve been back from Japan for over a month now and I’m only on Day 3 out of 11. 🙁

My goal is to speed these posts up before I forget things about the trip. Time constraints and all that, but here are my photos from Day 3.

We took an early morning train to Asakusa to go visit the Senso-ji Temple. Unfortunately, it was raining and nothing was open yet.

These are the omikuji stalls where you can get a random fortune. I got a bad fortune on my first try, which I tied on a metal wire along with the other bad fortunes. My next attempt got me a normal fortune.

We walked back outside the temple grounds to go grab breakfast at Denny’s.

After breakfast, the temple and assorted stalls were all open. The above photo is of inside the main temple building.

There were a ton of people once the temple was open. The fact that it had stopped raining also helped.

The Nakamise-dori is a well-known street surrounded by shops on the approach to the temple.

The shops were selling a variety of freshly made food. I recommend trying Ningyoyaki, which is a small cake with red bean paste filling.

Our next stop after Asakusa was to go check out Akihabara. I decided not to take my camera along since we were going to be revisiting Akihabara at a later time anyways.

We headed back to the hotel after shopping in Akihabara.

I bought a bottle of Dr. Pepper at a vending machine on the way back. ^_^

    Great Photos!

I wish I was able to get myself off to Japan, but the joys of a seemingly never ending education have prevented me. Look forward to checking out more of your photos =).

Wow that sure is one big red lamp thingie.
The absence of people really gives the temple a completely different feel.
Oh and does Japanese Dr Pepper taste any different?

Yeah, it felt really different in the early morning with no one there. Then a flood of people came afterward. >_<

I don't regularly drink Dr. Pepper, so I'm not sure, but it tastes the same I think.

that shop in the 3rd picture, far right side, sells good sweets, can’t remember exactly what they were anymore, just that they were good 😀

Ah, I think I somewhat remember a shop selling Agemanju (deep fried manju), but I’m not sure if that was the one. A bunch of the shops had good food. 🙂
