Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai – First Impressions

Another good series this season is Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai.

The general premise is that a transfer student named Kodaka and his classmate Yozora both have difficulty in making new friends, so they decide to make a club for people like themselves. Then they can all learn how to build friendships and bond with one another through group activities. At least that’s the idea.

After watching the first episode, I think the series has a Haruhi feel to it. Both are based around a club that does seemingly random stuff and both are led by strong female leads. Then throw in the same character design style as Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko and you have yourself a masterpiece. There’s something about this style that makes it both unique and appealing; it must be the slightly colored lips you don’t usually see in anime.

I’m already looking forward to the future clashes between Yozora and Sena, with Kodaka caught in the midst of everything.

Rating: Great

Definitely one of my series this season – I had initially planned to pass it up, but after I watched the first episode I kind of new I’d end up following this thing pretty faithfully.

Interestingly, I’m not sure whether I’m a fan of Sena or Yozora yet. I know I support one of them… just..not sure which one.

Don’t know if you’ve started watching C^3 yet, but I was greatly disappointed by that. It looked like it would have a really interesting concept to it – But the presentation failed spectacularly to engage me, and it ended up feeling like just yet another “boy lives with supernatural girls” series to me.

Can’t wait to see what you think of Maji de watashi – I played it’s visual novel a while back, and so far the anime has proven to be somewhat fun. My only real gripe with it is that it suffers from the usual “all the girls want him” problem, but that’s to be expected with dating-sim inspired series. At least this time around the male lead is actually competent and a credible threat in his own way.

I’m not sure which one (Sena or Yozora) I support either. It’s more like I’m a fan of both I guess.

Yeah, I’ve started watching C^3. I thought it looked interesting, but after watching it I was disappointed with how generic it feels. Maybe it’ll pick up after a few more episodes? *shrug*

I didn’t have any prior experience with Maji de Watashi, so the first episode caught me off guard. I guess it can considered somewhat fun to watch, although the main character seems to have a harem right off the bat. As you said, that’s to be expected considering its origins.
