[C] The Money of Soul and Possibility Control – First Impressions

Upon reading the synopsis for [C] The Money of Soul and Possibility Control, I instantly became intrigued since it seemed similar to Eden of the East in some regards.

People are chosen randomly and given a special card that allows access to the “Financial District”. In this special world, they choose and battle against an opponent where the resulting victor takes all of the loser’s money. Here’s where I became disillusioned. I was hoping for at least a battle of wits, but instead they summon a familiar from their card in the style of Yu-gi-oh! /Pokemon . Not at all what I was expecting.

I do like how the main topic of the series is money, which is something we can all relate to. Even the OP sequence shows various paper bills from countries all around the world. The English spoken by the ATM machine and other characters also sound very clean and natural. Bravo!

C would have more potential if it had a different system of battling, but there are still elements of the story that keep me confused yet interested enough to continue watching.

Rating: Good

I’m so shallow: the first thing I thought when I saw the image in your post was, “Ooh, pretty,” and then I kind of wanted to see the show. That’s all it takes for me sometimes. I’m not as thrilled by the description, though, although I’d be more intrigued if the familiars turned out to be characters in their own right and perhaps part of some greater storyline.

Haha, I do that sometimes too. Judging from the OP, the familiars/partners of at least the main character and his main opponent appear to be characters themselves.

I want to see the main character become rich. That should be interesting.

That it does. Unfortunately, it is an all too important commodity in our current world.

    Thanks! ^^

I may be misremembering the preview a bit… I thought it claimed this was a new kind of story and after the first episode it seems more like a “deal with the devil” story mixed with a fighting game story. Execution seemed pretty good, but I think I would have thought more highly of it if I hadn’t been waiting for something new to happen. Maybe “deal with the devil” isn’t a cultural trope in Japan?

I do recall it claiming something like that in a preview, but this is definitely nothing groundbreaking. Eh, I think “deal with the devil” is pretty well known in general.

Yup, now that I’ve seen more episodes, the battle system is actually more unique that I initially thought.
