Level E – First Impressions

This should be one of the final First Impressions posts for the Winter 2010 anime season.

Level E was my most anticipated show for this season due to the fact that sci-fi series are rare to begin with, but I didn’t get around to watching it until now. I went on a viewing spree and caught up to the current episode of 6, out of an unknown total number of episodes. The series was much more humorous and entertaining to watch than I thought it would be.

The premise is that of a present day Earth where countless types of aliens walk amongst us, and humans are the only ones who don’t realize it. Think Men in Black. Level E follows one of the universe’s greatest geniuses who arrives on Earth to have fun. His greatest fear is being bored, so he plays pranks on various people (mostly his personal bodyguards).

The humor is found in the absurd situations that result due to his actions. I got fooled more than once when I became really immersed in a story arc only to find out later there was a real explanation for everything. Hopefully Level E will air for quite a while since it’s getting some well-earned laughs out of me.

Rating: Very Good

  1. I also thought that this series would be an enjoyable sci-fi anime, except I didn’t reckon that the main character would be such a troll. Not that it matters since I’m fine with this development since the Prince has been the most entertaining character out of all the shows I’ve seen this season. There’s something about his trollish behavior that’s always a joy to watch, probably because he goes all out to annoy people with his antics.

Yeah, I definitely will. I think that’s the last series from this season I haven’t seen yet.

Actually… I’ve heard Freezing is one of those stories that butchers the manga. So if you liked the story as-is then you should definitely check out the manga. The anime feels like it’s trying to be an ecchier, less gory version of Elfen Lied… and failing.

i do read the manga as well while it doesnt seem to be as good as the manga and yea a little bit more echi still decent i think lol although i dont really like how they been doing lately on alot of the anime where they start it too soon and not let the manga get far enough ahead to where they can go further with the anime

A lot of studios seem to be doing shorter series just to test the waters. If they get a positive response, then they make a second season later on. Maybe they’re securing rights to produce anime for various manga earlier so other studios can’t do it? *shrug*

Sounds like a lot of fun. You don’t see much anime about aliens or sci-fi, so this will be a refreshing watch. I sooo wish I had more time to watch anime.
