Ore no Imouto – Final Impressions

I finally finished my first series from the Fall 2010 season after spreeing the final four episodes.

Ore no Imouto was good because everything felt believable. One of the main issues causing me to lose interest in a series is fake-sounding dialogue (e.g. Fortune Arterial). Fortunately, dialogue is one of Oreimo’s strong points. Listening to Kirino rant about anime reminds me of when people in real life talk about the things they’re passionate about. The exchanges between Kirino and Kuroneko are also fun to watch.

As for the characters, I sympathize with Kyousuke because he acts as the mediator in countless situations and is generally nice to everyone. However, Kirino slaps and beats him up in multiple scenes, which is completely uncalled for. I recall one time where she slapped him in the face so hard, she literally slapped him into the ground.

The pacing felt random at times, with the link between corresponding episodes being somewhat weak. This series could definitely have used 24 episodes instead of its measly 12. At least the non-ending perfectly sets it up for another season.

Overall, I found Ore no Imouto to be an enjoyable and worthwhile watch. I’m beginning to simply drop various series if it bores me at the slightest. So the time frame in which I finish a series is usually an accurate indication of how much I like it.

Rating: Very Good

I loved how authentic most of the conversations seemed too. The interactions are something I could see happening myself, albeit with different premises. It’s a pretty good series and certainly very enjoyable.
