Bakuman – First Impressions

From the same mangaka that brought us Death Note comes an anime airing this season based on the manga Bakuman.

The story is about two high school students that aim to become mangaka. One of them writes the story while the other does the drawing. There’s also a promise involving one of them getting married to his crush if he achieves his dream of becoming a mangaka and she achieves her dream of becoming a seiyuu, but they aren’t allowed to meet each other until then. How’s that for a first meeting?

Since I read the manga before, I knew the series would be worth watching if they don’t somehow completely screw up the adaptation. From what I’ve seen so far though, I expect Bakuman to be one of the solid “good” series this season.

As an added bonus, there’s already a direct reference to Death Note in the first episode.

Rating: Very Good

I guess it’s more of a passing reference. When Akito had Moritaka’s notebook, he said something along the lines of, “Why are you flustered, it’s not like this is a Death Note.”

  2. So far, looks promising since the way the comedy is set up and the blending of that and the drama looks to have all the trappings of what I usually enjoy. Kasai also tends to be solid in the director’s chair with the only exception being the work he did on Miracle Train (yeaaah… that show) so really hoping this one pans out.

Haha, he did Miracle Train? Good to hear the directing is going to be solid.

Definitely one of the more hyped series of the season, and for good reason too. Hopefully, it remains good through the whole series.

I’m expecting a lot from Bakuman since the creator behind Death Note (which is an awesome series) made it.
