House of Five Leaves First Impressions
The very first thing that struck me about House of Five Leaves was the art style.
The protagonist along with many other characters have almost completely black eyes which makes them look unnatural, almost as if they were the walking undead.
Besides its unique art style, the series flows at the pace of the lead character who is a shy ronin looking for a job when he becomes entangled with a group of kidnappers. Their leader invites him to join the “House of Five Leaves” as a bodyguard. During his first assignment, he displays skill in combat which was surprising considering his cowardly personality.
I can already see the vast potential for character development, which seems to be the main focus of this anime. It’ll be interesting to see if the ronin is able to fix his timid personality while he’s with the Five Leaves.

I’m guessing you’re right, that Masanosuke’s development will be an important part of the show. I still have a feeling that there is another issue at work, however. Perhaps something about Yaichi, who seems a bit mysterious.

Yeah, there’s definitely other elements at work here. It’ll probably delve into Yaichi’s history later along with more info about the kid with the maple leaf tattoo.

There seems to be a lot of similarities between this and Ristorante Paradiso, a show that I enjoyed quite a bit. So while I haven’t seen this show yet, I’m having great hopes for how this one will turn out.

Yeah, both shows are based on their manga counterparts by Ono Natsume. So you’ll probably like this if you liked Ristorante Paradiso. I’ve only seen around 1/3 of that show though, and I don’t even remember why I stopped.

Those are some creepy eyes and really sharp noses. It’s not bad though, just different.

Yeah, it’s actually better that anime have a wider range of art styles. Also, it makes the series all the more memorable.

Artwork style definitely not for me but I think I will watch it if someone give me the file for free. I mean directly, not with downloading it first.
Just waste my bandwidth if download anime that didn’t match my preferences.

[...] House of Five Leaves – Watching this anime is starting to bore me. The entire series feels slow, and the main character’s meek personality doesn’t help. [...]
