Mayoi Neko Overrun! First Impressions

Mayoi Neko Overrun!

As we continue with the Spring season shows, we arrive at Mayoi Neko Overrun!

This series is starting to build up to be your typical high school harem with a semi-clueless nice guy at the eye of the storm. It has one of those stories where you know the male lead is going to eventually end up with his childhood friend, but the anime probably won’t get that far and it’ll be inconclusive instead.

The general atmosphere is that of a romantic comedy with a few obvious fan service camera angle shots. So far we are introduced to his childhood friend who’s a tsundere liar that says the opposite of what she really feels, a loli rich girl, and a stray cat girl (?) that they picked up.

Animation quality seems a bit on the lower budget since you can tell they decided to leave out details or were just cutting corners, but it’s decent enough considering the atmosphere of the series.

Mayoi Neko Overrun! brings nothing new to the table, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. It was decently entertaining, and tsunderes are always a plus.

Rating: Decent

Eh, I didn’t have any expectations for this to begin with, but it’s… well, I’ll just say it’s below average. Oh well, I’ll still probably check it out for one or two more episodes.

Takumi seems like a rather well put together character though, so maybe he’ll keep her in check and save this from devolving into something awful.

Yeah, she really seems to depend on him after he supported her in the past. Since this is based on a light novel series, I’m hoping it shouldn’t be too bad.

And people ask me why I got sick of anime…

My interest in anime is going downhill except for the occasional series that amaze me.

  3. From the looks of the screencap, the guy doesn’t look exceedingly clueless; more that he knows she’s tsun and will just go ahead and take it in stride.

That’s a better description of him. I meant to say semi-dense I guess because I’m assuming he won’t notice obvious signs of affection later on. ^^

This is actually one of the series I am going to be watching. Usually these types of anime are not my thing, but I’m watching it to support Peko.

Still, I expected it to be generic and nothing exciting.

Yeah, it’s mostly what I expected so far. Peko’s illustrations look pretty good.

Does anyone have any ideas why the manga (Possibly carrying over to anime) is including ToLoveRu characters at random points?

It looks like the artist, Yabuki Kentaro, works on both Mayoi Neko and ToLoveRu. I don’t follow these series at the moment though.
