Heroman First Impressions

Heroman

It’s April, and that means the Spring 2010 anime season is rolling out new series.

I’m not really a big fan of American comics. So considering that Heroman was based on an idea by Stan Lee (creator of Spider-man), I had my reservations.

The pilot episode sets up the stereotypical superhero beginning. A seemingly weak boy, the kind that gets pushed around at school, fixes a broken toy robot that miraculously transforms into Heroman and partners up with him.

I’ll give this anime a few more episodes to see how it turns out, mostly because Bones is the studio animating it.

Rating: Mediocre

    Yeah, Bones animation worked pretty well with this episode.

    Stan Lee did a real good job of making the anime look like it branched out from Marvel Comics. Joey reminded me too much of pre-Spiderman Peter Parker.

    @Sebz: Except that Joey looks really feminine, but yeah.

    @Fabrice: :/

    @mangajet: Yup, give it a try.

  5. I’ve heard about how this series could go either way, and so far, it looks like that prognosis is leaning more towards “could be bad” than “could be good.” Still, I did hear that the music was good, so I might just check the soundtrack out and nothing else.

    I’m leaning towards “could be bad” I guess, but I’ll be happy to be proven wrong. I can’t recall the music from the first episode; going to need to watch a few more to let it soak in.

    Bah. Heroman is fucking awesome. And really, really American.

    Also, Jeoy is actually Yui from K-On. Stan Lee told me so.

    Reltair Reply:

    Haha, Yui as rendered by Bones.
