To Aru Kagaku no Railgun Final Impressions

I still have lots of anime to catch up on as the Winter 2009 season draws to a close. However, I have been diligently following To Aru Kagaku no Railgun since its first airing in October of last year, and the completion of this series leaves me with some mixed feelings.

I’ll start off with the things that I didn’t really like as much. Since this anime just contains side-stories to To Aru Majutsu no Index, I wasn’t really expecting much of a main plot, but it still could have been more cohesive overall. Some of the mini-arcs felt a bit rushed as well. *shrugs*

Also, Touma appeared a very few number of times during the series. I was hoping to see more of him and his encounters with Misaka, but this could be due in part to the material that the studio had to work with (I’m not sure since I didn’t read that far into the manga).

As for the things I liked, they include the awesome OPs (loved both the songs and animations), the setting, and the cast of characters.

OP2:

It was an entertaining ride to watch their antics, especially Kuroko’s. So it mostly boils down to whether you like the cast of characters or not.

If you do, great! *high five*

Otherwise, there’s plenty of other series to watch.

I actually really liked this series. I haven’t seen Index though, so for me, this didn’t feel like a side story.

@Lightoss: It’s not, Railgun has a more carefree atmosphere overall. Probably bad wording on my part, but I believe it’s a new story that takes place concurrently with Index.

@Yi: Yup, I liked watching Misaka and company do their thing. I stand corrected, Railgun is more of a spin-off to Index than a side story. Watching Index now after seeing Railgun would be cool though, since you get to see characters from Railgun appear in Index. ^^

The fights were on a bigger scale than expected, this was nowhere scientific.I thought Railgun turned into a mecha anime lol. And Kongou finally showed her LVL4 skills 🙂
The last scenes were nice, too. Even when it was a bit too much of an happy end, even Telestina survived…

What a shame the series wasted so many episodes, it could have been much better.

I was hoping for more Misaka x touma =/

Needed more Misaka x Touma for sure. And yeah, we finally got to see Kongou’s ability in action.

@K: Yeah, it’s worth watching. You don’t need to watch To Aru Majutsu no Index to understand it.

@ippius: I found Saten and Kuroko to be more interesting than Misaka. *shrug*
