The two 1-hour long Fate/stay night TV Reproduction OVAs have been released and subbed.
The first noticeable difference is the newly redone OP and ED. You can view them here at one of my previous posts.
Each OVA summarizes 12 episodes of the 24-episode TV series that aired back in 2006. It has been awhile since I’ve last seen the anime, which made it somewhat difficult to pick out the limited new scenes that are included in the OVAs.
For the most part, the OVAs are the major scenes and battles from the TV series all cropped out and linked together. Considering that they’re trying to stuff 8 hours of content into only 2 hours, many things had to be left out.
It felt like it was constantly jumping from battle to battle nonstop. If you’re new to Fate/stay night, you’re better off playing the visual novel or watching the TV series. Without prior knowledge, it’ll be hard to keep up with what’s going on in these OVAs. Otherwise, it’s a good refresher to put you in the mood for the Unlimited Blade Works movie.
On an ending note, I thought these OVAs were well done and served their purpose as a summary of the TV series. The animations, plot, characters, and setting are all the same as before. I liked Fate/stay night back then, and I still do now.

So I take it that if I’ve already seen the TV series, there’s really no need for me to give this a look? If you had difficulty spotting the add-ons, I guess the new content isn’t too worth it provided one’s memory is fresh.

As for new content, watching the new OP is quite sufficient if you’re interested.

I see, then the only thing worth seeing is the OP. (sigh) I was hoping it would be similar to the manga, but I guess I was hoping too much. Well, I already watch the original so there is no need for me to watch a chibi version of it.

Haha, at least I saw the original TV series a long time ago so this was a good refresher.
Given the massive amount of detail in this world, I kind of have to wonder if condensing it further is wise.

Personally, I thought the series was too slow at times and kind of dragged out certain parts. This reproduction is too fast paced… But it is just a summary.

I know what you mean. The reproduction was fast-paced, but pretty good for a 2 hour summary. Plus, action scenes galore. ^^

Got around to watching it last night, i felt that ‘Reproduction’ was a bad choice of words to describe the two hour cram session of the OVA. It was fun to watch for me, cause like for both of us we both already know the plot and outcome. It just touched up on the main battle scenes which I hope they worked on more which they didn’t really. The totalling time of the reworked scenes I presume would be maybe around 10-15 mins of footage consisting of new angles, point of views and prettier visuals. I dunno I felt it was pretty disappointing. The highlights for me were probably the 3 sword block by Gilgamesh after Shiro’s date with Saber, more visuals about Saber’s past, those awesome pew pew effects from Rin’s Azoth dagger after jamming it into Kirei, Shiro’s tracing of Excalibur when they were fighting with Berserker (to be honest I’m not even sure if there was any difference in that scene), Saber vs Rider climbing to the rooftop where Shinji was hiding, Saber’s original summoning was slightly visually satifsying as well as the awesome new/remixed OP’s, oh yeah the awesome new ED also…must find the OST.
I was hoping they would have completely reworked the final battle of Saber vs Gilgamesh/Shiro vs Kirei and the Archer vs Berserker scene (especially since with the UBW movie coming out) however they disappointed me by shortening the fight scene dramatically.

The 2 hours was a pretty let down for me, but like you said, its a good recap for the release of the movie which makes me even more pumped to wait for its ‘release’.

@Shazzsteel: Epic comment, lol. Yeah, I noticed that a lot of the battle scenes were cropped short. The new angles and what not didn’t really feel like new content all that much. So it’s basically a recap with a new OP, which is the majority of the new content. I agree that the visuals to the new OP were awesome. ^^

Naw, this is just a remake of the original anime. As for the story, the visual novel has a couple routes and that’s it.
Unless you’re referring to Unlimited Blade Works, which the new movie follow.
