Upcoming PS3 RPGs

White Knight Chronicles International Edition

The PS3 definitely feels like it has been lacking some good RPGs (Side note: Valkyria Chronicles was awesome), but this year’s lineup aims to remedy that. After patiently waiting for years, this game is finally coming out next week!

I preordered this along with the rest of these RPGs over at Amazon as usual. No tax along with Amazon Prime makes it all worthwhile.

Star Ocean: The Last Hope

I was disappointed when this was released only on the Xbox 360 since I’ve played all the previous Star Ocean games. Good thing it’s coming out for the PS3 on February 9th since it saves me from having to buy a 360.

Final Fantasy XIII

It’s the next game in the Final Fantasy franchise, what more do you need to know? Despite some gamers ranting about how the plot is too linear, I still highly anticipate FF13 due to its graphics and what will hopefully be entertaining gameplay.

Resonance of Fate

Known as End of Eternity in Japan, the name was probably changed for release in NA to Resonance of Fate due to copyright issues (I recall an Asimov novel named End of Eternity). Anyways, tri-Ace is the developer behind this game, and I look forward to what they have to offer if their previous work on the Star Ocean and Valkyrie Profile series is any indication of what’s to come.

    Do u know what sux, all 4 of these games release dates are too close to each other. I know each game will take at least 50hrs and surely I won’t get through each one within a month.

    White Knight Chronicles I will give it a miss for now as it’s release date is too close to FFXIII. Same as Star Ocean 4 but the urges are kicking in. It’s the poison. >_<
    Will get FFXIII on release date as I aim to grab the collectors edition. As for Resonance of Fate, the release date here is the day after FFXIII date. I saw a few trailers and gameplay footages and I'm liking what I see. Also it's a tri-Ace game.
    Dam, my wallet is gonna die. 🙁

  2. The only reason for me to play FFXIII is to listen to the soundtrack in-game. I’m already in love with the music I’ve heard from the official soundtrack, so getting to hear Hamauzu’s compositions in game would be most excellent!

    @Optic: Yeah, I’ll only be able to play these games on the weekends when I go home from college. So much games that I still need to beat as well. =/

    @zzeroparticle: Right on, I forgot about looking forward to the music. ^^;

    @Densha Otoko: Nice post, although I was mainly focusing on PS3 RPGs being released in the states. It slipped my mind that Tales of Vesperia was being ported to the PS3. As for Ar Tonelico 3, I hope they’ll bring it over to the NA region quickly since I’ve beaten both 1 and 2. Definitely looking forward to how they’ve adapted the series to the PS3.
