Durarara!! First Impressions

Durarara!!

My favorite series from the Winter 2009 Anime Season so far would have to be Durarara!!

Considering it’s from the same author that wrote Baccano!, I expected it to cycle through a ton of characters who are all connected somehow. The series begins with Mikado, who has just arrived in Tokyo, and is given an informal introduction of Ikebukuro by his old friend Masaomi.

So far in the first episode we are already introduced to a cast of unique individuals: a man that throws vending machines, the headless horseman on a motorcycle, and more. I also like the OP style; the way it jumps between all the characters is fun to watch.

This type of anime feels refreshing since it gives me a break from the usual cookie-cutter series. *cough* Omamori Himari *cough*

Rating: Very Good

  1. I love how the author manages to make a unique set of characters get connected somehow. I’m happy that DRRR had been the same with Baccano in that sense xD

  3. There’s just so much Baccano! relatedness that you can find sprinkled in this series. Or so I’ve heard. I need to watch this so I can be convinced to buy Spice and Wolf DVDs.

After watching Baccano and loving it (for the most part – I felt a little let down by the ending, since I wanted to keep watching the characters and felt the show ended a little too soon), I can’t wait to see Durarara. I heard it’s been licensed but haven’t checked to see when it’s being released (or maybe it already has?). Here’s hoping I can afford it…

Personally, I liked Baccano more than Durarara. It’s still good though. The first part of Durarara is being released in America some time January 2011 I believe.

comes out Jan. 25th from Aniplex their first DVD release under its own name but only available from Bandai store and Rightstuff online. The english voice actors seem to do justice to the anime thou I always do lean more towards Jap voice actors with english subs but I will give this one a chance.

Oh, it’s nice that Aniplex is releasing under their own name. I always just watch it with the Japanese voices. *shrug*
